The Sixth
Planning approved - New applications awaiting decision
The Belfast Telegraph building was built in 1886 by
H & J Martin in red sandstone, much like the neighbouring Belfast Central Library.
Designed by Henry Seaver, an Armagh-born architect known for the Scottish Mutual Building (Site of the planned George Best Hotel). It was extended extensively throughout the following decades, as well as being developed into the adjacent site in 1983.
The original building was B2 listed (NI equivalent to Grade II) in 2015 before being put up for sale when the Belfast Telegraph moved into its new premises on Clarendon Dock.
The building was later sold to BelTel LLP, a first-of-its-kind partnership between McAleer & Rushe and Belfast City Council.
Since then, its former printing hall has been occupied by Limelight Belfast LTD, operating one of the city's newest and largest music venues.
In 2019, planning application submitted by BelTel LTD was approved and includes demolition of the non-listed extensions and a £75m redevelopment of the site.
